CHADWICK’S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E.232: 3 skeins (1 oz. “Tangle-Proof” Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 515 Dk. Turquoise.
Clark’s O.N.T. Plastic Double-Pointed Sock Needles, 1 set No. 4 (3½ mm. size) and 1 set No. 5 (3¾ mm. size).

GAUGE: No. 5 needles—5 sts make 1  inch; 15 rows make 2 inches.

Starting at center of Crown with No. 4 needles, cast on 10 sts. Divide sts among 3 needles, being careful not to twist sts. Join and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 as follows: 1st and all uneven rnds: * K 1, p 1. Repeat from * around. 2nd rnd: Inc 2 sts in first st, * p 1, inc 2 sts in next st. Repeat from * around, ending with p 1. 4th rnd: K 1, p 1, * inc 2 sts in next st, p 1, k 1, p 1. Repeat from * around, ending with inc 2 sts in next st, p 1 (30 sts). 6th rnd: (K 1, p 1) twice; * inc 2 sts in next st, (p 1, k 1) twice; p 1. Repeat from * around, ending with inc 2 sts in next st, p 1 (40 sts). 8th rnd: (K 1, p 1) 3 times; * inc 2 sts in next st, (p 1, k 1) 3 times; p 1. Repeat from * around, ending with inc 2 sts in next st, p 1 (50 sts). Work in this manner, increasing 10 sts in every other rnd as before until there are 110 sts on needles. Change to No. 5 needles and work in ribbing until piece measures 6 inches in all.

BRIM … Now work as follows: K 1, p 1, * inc 2 sts in next st, p 1, k 1, p 1. Repeat from * around (164 sts). Work without increasing until piece measures 2½ inches from beginning of Brim. Next row: K 1, p 1, * k 3 tog, p 1, k 1, p 1. Repeat from * around. Bind off in ribbing.

Fold Brim in half and sew neatly to inside.
